Every reconditioned tote is a tote that doesn't end up in a landfill. Here's the cumulative environmental impact of our work since 2018.
From procurement to end-of-life recycling, we handle every stage of the IBC tote lifecycle so you can focus on running your business.
Manufacturing a single new IBC tote generates approximately 170 kg of CO₂ emissions. That includes extracting raw HDPE plastic from petroleum, forming the steel cage, and the energy-intensive blow molding process. When you choose a reconditioned tote, you bypass nearly all of that embodied carbon. Across a fleet of 100 totes, that's 17 metric tons of CO₂ you're keeping out of the atmosphere—equivalent to taking four cars off the road for an entire year.
Each new 275-gallon IBC requires roughly 50 pounds of virgin HDPE plastic derived from petroleum and 30 pounds of galvanized steel. By reusing existing totes, we reduce demand for these finite resources. Our cleaning and reconditioning process uses 90% less water and energy than manufacturing from scratch. Over our company's lifetime, we've saved the equivalent of 450,000 gallons of water and prevented nearly 900 tons of plastic from entering the waste stream.
An IBC tote takes over 400 years to decompose in a landfill. Even in recycling facilities, the multi-material construction (HDPE bottle, steel cage, wooden or plastic pallet) makes single-stream recycling difficult. Our specialized process disassembles each component for proper handling: bottles are either reconditioned for reuse or granulated for pellet recycling, steel is melted for reuse, and pallets are repaired or responsibly recycled. We recover up to 95% of the material by weight.

The circular economy for industrial containers isn't just good for the planet—it's good business. Companies that adopt reuse programs for their IBC fleet typically see ROI within the first quarter while meeting increasingly strict sustainability mandates from customers and regulators alike.
Every tote is inspected, tested, and graded before it reaches your facility. We stand behind the quality of every unit we sell.
From our Broadway Street warehouse to the loading dock, every IBC tote passes through our hands with care. Here's a look inside our operations.

Not sure if IBC totes are right for your operation? Here's how they stack up against traditional 55-gallon drums and rigid storage tanks across eight critical factors. The numbers make the case clearly.
| Factor | IBC Totes | 55-Gal Drums | Rigid Tanks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capacity | 275–330 gal | 55 gal | 500–5,000 gal |
| Cost per Gallon | $0.18–$0.35 | $0.55–$0.90 | $0.40–$1.20 |
| Stackability | 2–4 high | Limited | Not stackable |
| Dispensing Ease | Built-in valve | Pump required | Pump required |
| Floor Footprint | 40" × 48" pallet | 5 drums per pallet | Fixed install |
| Empty Weight | ~130 lbs | ~40 lbs each (×5) | 500–2,000 lbs |
| Recyclability | 95% material recovery | Steel recyclable | Difficult to recycle |
| Versatility | Portable & modifiable | Limited mods | Permanent install |
IBC totes combine the portability of drums with the capacity of small tanks, delivering the lowest cost per gallon stored and the smallest warehouse footprint of any reusable industrial container. Pair that with our reconditioning services and you get premium performance at a fraction of the price of new containers.
Since opening our doors in 2018, IBC Minneapolis has grown from a small warehouse operation into the Twin Cities' most trusted source for used and reconditioned IBC totes. These figures reflect the cumulative impact of our work.

Sustainability isn't a marketing slogan for us—it's the foundation of our business model. Every decision we make is filtered through an environmental impact lens. Here are the four commitments that guide everything we do.
We have committed to sending absolutely zero IBC tote material to landfills. Every container that enters our facility is either reconditioned for reuse, rebottled with a new inner vessel, or fully disassembled for material-specific recycling. Our proprietary sorting process separates HDPE plastic, galvanized steel, and pallet materials into dedicated recycling streams, achieving a 95% material recovery rate. The remaining 5% is processed through energy-recovery facilities rather than landfill disposal. Since implementing this policy in 2020, we have diverted over 1,200 tons of material from regional landfills.
Transportation is the largest source of emissions in our operations, and we are taking aggressive steps to eliminate it. Our roadmap to carbon-neutral shipping includes transitioning our local delivery fleet to compressed natural gas and eventually electric vehicles, optimizing delivery routes with AI-powered logistics software to reduce total miles driven, and purchasing verified carbon offsets for all remaining emissions. We have already reduced per-delivery emissions by 30% since 2022 through route consolidation and load optimization. By 2027, every delivery from IBC Minneapolis will carry a net-zero carbon footprint.
We believe environmental stewardship starts locally. IBC Minneapolis partners with community gardens and urban farms across the Twin Cities, donating cleaned food-grade totes for rainwater collection and nutrient solution storage. We work with local vocational training programs to provide hands-on industrial skills training, and we sponsor annual neighborhood cleanup events along the Mississippi River in Northeast Minneapolis. Through our partnership with Minnesota GreenCorps, we also host student interns who learn about circular economy practices and industrial sustainability firsthand at our facility.
Talk is cheap, which is why we publish detailed sustainability metrics every quarter. Our transparency reports track total totes processed, material recovery rates, carbon emissions per delivery, water usage in our cleaning operations, and progress against our zero-landfill and carbon-neutral goals. Every customer who purchases from IBC Minneapolis receives a personalized environmental impact certificate showing exactly how many kilograms of CO₂ and pounds of plastic waste their order prevented. We hold ourselves accountable because we believe our customers deserve proof, not just promises.
